    Downtown Coshocton little histories

    Virginia Allman, Margaret Lowe, Bob Fetters, Dan Moody and Lula Williams–all members of the History Discussion Group gathered at the Pomerene Center in early April 2011 to tell stories about Downtown Coshocton in honor of Coshocton’s Bicentennial.  The stories were recorded and edited by Pomerene Center Director and community artist Anne Cornell.     A Friday in June at Nightfall.

    The sun falls behind the hills west of Main Street, giving off an orange glow only summer is capable of producing. The sounds of insects pervade the air; background noise sounding from the courthouse lawn. A soft breeze sways the trees as darkness slowly falls, just as it does every other night, yet, something is different, something has changed. As the street lights give off their incandescent glow, lighting the street, breathing over the cement; foreign colors disturb the homeostasis. Where the Park Hotel once stood, a space lives.     Leaving Coshocton for the first time opened my eyes – truly opened them. My entire life up until my departure, I knew only small town America. Sitting on my porch and recognizing the person in every other car was common for me – to say I was nervous to leave is an understatement. What did the big city lights have in store for me? Who would I meet? Who would I become? These questions and more flooded my mind on my car ride to my new home. The college experience could be defined as comical if nothing else.
