The Ensemble: Shawn "Thunder" Wallace–Saxophone, Flute & Clarinet with students John Ferrell–Guitar & Drums;Lucas Holmes–Piano; Alex Jewel–Bass

The Ohio State School of Music believes that there is no substitute for a live musical performance–that there is a sense of excitement involved in a live musical performance that cannot be equaled through recordings. A vital part of the mission of The OSU School of Music is to increase the opportunity for music to be a part of the lives of Ohioans.  In fulfillment of that mission, Professor Shawn Wallace, jazz saxophonist and flutist of the jazz studies faculty at The OSU School of Music, will lead the OSU Jazz Combo composed of himself and four students in performance at the Pomerene Center for the Arts Saturday May 9 at 4:30p. The students–all OSU jazz studies majors–play piano, bass, drums and guitar.

Shawn "Thunder" Wallace is part of a new generation of musicians. He is a performer, recording artist, composer, clinician and educator and holds a Masters Degree in music. Although often referred to as a musician's musician, Shawn "Thunder" Wallace is a crowd-pleasing performer enormously skilled in classical music and equally comfortable with traditional and contemporary jazz and Christian music. He has been seen and heard nationally on CBS, BET, NBC and NPR.

The School of Music at Ohio State is one of the most comprehensive music schools in the country.  Their artist-teachers include specialists in all areas of instrumental and vocal instruction; the education faculty covers the full array of music education experiences, from preschool through high school; our academic faculty scholarly expertise spans the centuries, from early music up through popular music of the 21st century, and represents musical traditions from around the globe.
