Pomerene invites families and friends to make lanterns for Miracle on Main Street 2025

Imagine the artPARK transformed during the dark months of November, December, and January into a joyful, seasonal space. Imagine it lit by 30 2-3 ft. softly glowing, silk lanterns that throw clear mandala “snowflake” patterns onto the ground. Imagine a colorful forest-like light space, a quiet space, across from the bustle of the dancing courthouse lights and the new iceskating rink you can barely see — laughter floating, filtered by the distance.

Once you have this in your head, imagine working with a team of artists/inventors from Columbus to create those lanterns and parade them to the artPARK as part of Miracle on Main 2025. If this sounds like something your family and friends would love to be a part of, pomARTS (aka Pomerene Center for the Arts) is inviting you.

OBLSK (the team of artists) will be coming to Coshocton for two workshops: SATURDAY NOVEMBER 15 — Silk Dying & Mandala Pattern Making. 11a – 1p or 1p-3p.  And TUESDAY NOVEMBER 18 — Lantern Construction 3:30 – 5:30p or 5:30 – 7:30p. The workshops will be held at the former Rust Decor building, 341 Main St. Between Saturday and Tuesday, OBLSK will take the mandala designs back to Columbus to laser cut the patterns into circles of Baltic birch.

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 21 at 4:30 our parade ensemble (think lantern color guard) will line up at the fairgrounds ready to bedazzle the crowds lining the streets for Miracle on Main 2025. The night ends with Santa and Mrs. Claus riding the ladder truck to the 300 block, the opening of the courthouse light show and the hanging of the artPARK lantern installation.

Participation is free but enrollment in the lantern making workshops is limited. Registration is required. You can do that here. p.s. Don’t worry if you can’t do it all — this is a community effort, every little bit counts. Questions? Text 740.622.0326
